This is Eiji. I haven't forgotten about you saving me, but it just took me a little time to settle in before I could start cooking anything.

My best dish is probably curry, but I just want to know how spicy you like your food and if you eat any meat, and if so, what kind? Just want to know before I make it.

[Woah what a pleasant surprise! She can't keep it out of her voice]

You remembered? You are really going to cook for me?

Of course. I did promise, didn't I?

Eh, yes, but... Most make promises that are empty. I do not expect humans to keep them-- humans always lie.

Almost always, suppose... [She trails off, frowning lightly.] And they break promises anyhow.

[Another pause and she adds, belatedly] I like curry. Have had it before.

I know. A lot do. But I try to keep my promises.

Good. I can make it a normal level of spice, but if you like it spicier, I can do that too.

[Yet another long pause as she considers this skeptically.] You are a strange human.

I do not like spice too much. It makes my stomach hurt. [She hums thoughtfully] Can you make sweet things too?

I've heard that before.

Okay, so I'll keep it mild. And I haven't made too many sweets, but I can try. Is there anything you really like?

[She's tired of not having a face to talk at, so she switches to video. Her mermaid tail is gone, if the crossed legs are any big indicator, and she rests her chin in her hand as she lounges on her couch.]

Lots of things! Ehh, but... I do not like some textures... I do not like cheesecake. It is too...creamy? Smooth? I do not know, but I do not like it. 'Mochi' is little strange too, but I like it, suppose...

Ah, cake! I do like cakes! Can you bake cakes?

[And now that Oona's video is active, Eiji's is, and he's...well, he's confused for a minute.]

I thought you...

[He shakes his head. Never mind. He of all people should understand that some people can transform.]

I've never tried to bake a cake before, but I guess there's a first time for everything.

[Oona's eyes light up with mischief and she grins, pleased at his confusion] Thought I had a tail? I did! Removed it. It is not, ehh... what is the word? Convenient in this city to only have tail. How would I move around?

They are not as pretty as my tail, however. [POUT.]

Yes, yes! Should try. A big cake! Hmm, chocolate! With frosting! Or icing? They are same thing, yes?

Oh. I guess that makes sense.

[More sense than most of what he's seen around here, anyway.]

Um, I don't think there's a difference, but I can find out.

It might be easier if I try to make this first and then bring it over, especially the cake.

[She considers this a moment, humming thoughtfully.]

Hmm, yes, that would do! Ah, but I like watching men cook... Oh, I could come over instead! And watch! [And taste-test.] Could even help, a little... Maybe.

I am not so bad in the kitchen, sometimes. Was learning a little.

Oh, okay. That could work.

[His apartment is kind of...tiny. And also currently very empty.]

Good! Then, it is a date, as they say! [She even winks, but it's a joke...right...

She then pauses and scratches thoughtfully at her cheek.] Eiji, right? You were one of the new people. You are... well? [NOT THAT SHE CARES OR ANYTHING.] Mean, you are settling in okay?

[He really doesn't know how to take that wink. Or that maybe joke. You are going to give this poor boy so much anxiety.]

Yeah, I'm doing okay. [He tries to make his smile look convincing.] It's kind of a lot to take in, but I'm hanging in there.

[It's what she lives for.]

Hmm. [She narrows her eyes, unconvinced, and considers.] It is a lot. But, this place is interesting. Like it more than I did own home in lots of ways.

Are you alone? That is, are there others from your home here?

Really? Where are you from?

Just one person from my world made it, although there's someone else here I met in another place.

Earth. I do not know the lands. [She considers again and then shrugs; everyone else knows her business so what's one more person?] Can not go back home to ocean, even if returned to that world. I do not have place there anymore. Was wandering when I came here. If it is destroyed, good. I do not care.

[She waves a hand flippantly and huffs] Good riddance.

At least you are not alone. It is a good thing, to come into such place with allies already. [But she tilts her head] 'Another place'?

[Eiji again really wants to ask more, but he knows when to leave things alone--if Oona's serious about not caring about it being destroyed, then something had to have happened.

And if she's only saying that...then it's probably not his place to ask in the first place.

As for his own case...]

Oh, yeah. The three of us had been taken from our worlds to some kind of school. It was...well, it was worse than it sounds. Shigeru disappeared one day, and then a few months later, Ankh and I got out. But I guess we didn't get home, or at least, not for long.

School is already bad, can not imagine being stuck there! [She laughs] I have seen the school here, though I am too old to go. It seems boring. Can not think of worse place to get trapped.

[Still, that sounds weird.] Hmm... Well. CERES says they will help. Maybe. [Did they actually say that though? It's been a long time since Oona's gotten that opening presentation stuff.]

Perhaps you will see your home again.

I definitely don't want to have to go through classes again, here or anywhere else.

That's what I heard too, and I'm hoping it's true. There's a lot of people I miss.
