There is nothing to be sorry about. I do not have to celebrate every one. I am only turning 86.
[She really doesn't know what to do. In a perfect world she'd just spend it with family or learn some new magic. But she's hasn't celebrated her birthday in 20-some years and she doesn't even know where to begin]
I don't know... What do humans normally do for birthdays?
Only 86, huh? How long do mermaids usually live for...?
Well, usually we throw parties of some sort. But to be honest, I'm not much of a party guy... Vash's birthday is coming up, and I'm cooking a large dinner for the castle and one of his friends who's coming over. Oh, you're obviously coming to that, by the way!
I'm baking donuts for him too, which I've never done before. Baked goods are a common celebration.
Aside from that... You just enjoy spending time with the people you're close to, I guess. Oh, and you receive presents!
Mmm... Mother's mother lived to be 500? But we do not live forever. Often other predators or things get us. It is how life goes, so it is still surprising to live that long.
[She reads over the rest of it, trying to wrap her head around it and compare it to things she might've overheard and seen a little of]
I have not had baked goods. But also, I do not have many friends to celebrate with. There is you and Vash.
Akechi, sometimes. Is not enough people to make a big party.
[ 500... Wonders truly never cease. He wonders if 86 is still considered young for a mermaid.
Conversation best left for her belated celebration. ]
It doesn't have to be a big party. A dinner with the castle inhabitants would be fun, wouldn't it? Even though there's not many of us. Akechi-kun and Zazie-san would definitely both come. And you and Zazie-san both like sushi! I'd be happy to make it for you, if you'd like.
And yes, generally people give you presents. I'll certainly get you one. What sort of things would you like to receive?

[PRESENTS, THOUGH....]
I can have a present? Anything at all?

[She hasn't really talked to Zazie much, but if he likes sushi then he can't be so bad.]
Shiny things! Jewelry is nice! But anything shiny and nice is also fine.
[She considers a moment] one of the houses had a toaster. It was shiny AND it makes TOAST.
